What is National Cancer Awareness Day?
National Cancer Awareness Day is a special day dedicated to raising awareness about cancer and its impact on individuals and families.
What is cancer wellness and why is it important?
Cancer wellness is a transformative, whole-person approach that empowers individuals navigating the complexities of cancer by holistically addressing their physical, spiritual, emotional, informational, social, systemic, and practical needs. This comprehensive methodology not only complements traditional medical treatments but also fosters a sense of hope and positivity, enabling individuals to thrive even amidst the challenges of their journey. By embracing cancer wellness, both children and adults can discover a pathway to empowerment and resilience, encouraging them to live life fully and joyfully. At Treasure Tower Rewards Canada, we believe in nurturing creativity and fun while supporting the well-being of our community, and we invite everyone to explore the enriching aspects of cancer wellness as a vital part of their healing journey.
Cancer Wellness is vital as it empowers individuals by giving them a sense of control and actively involving them in their own care. It encourages them to make informed decisions and take concrete steps to improve their well-being.
Why hold a National Cancer Wellness Awareness Day ?
National Cancer Wellness Awareness Day serves as a vital beacon of hope and education, illuminating the pressing reality that 1 in 2 Canadians will face a cancer diagnosis in their lifetime. This day is not just about raising awareness; it’s about empowering families with knowledge and resources that can make a difference. Many people remain unaware of the invaluable support and services offered by cancer wellness centres, which play a critical role in guiding individuals and families through their journey. By participating in this initiative, we can foster a community that is informed, engaged, and ready to support one another in the face of adversity. Everyone can take action, explore the resources available, and nurture a culture of health and wellness that protects and enriches the lives of our loved ones.
By holding a national awareness day, we can reach a broader audience, educate communities about the availability of cancer wellness centres, and encourage people to access the comprehensive support and resources that can enhance their well-being.
The History of National Cancer Wellness Awareness Day
The inception of National Cancer Wellness Awareness Day marks a pivotal moment in Canadians collective journey toward supporting those affected by cancer. Originating from the dedicated efforts of the West Island Cancer Wellness Centre (WICWC), who in late 2018 sought the recognition of this significant day, Canada celebrated its first observance on June 26, 2019, with the enthusiastic backing of a coalition of partner organizations and passionate volunteers. This collaborative spirit was exemplified through a lobby day on Parliament Hill, where advocates engaged with Members of Parliament and Senators, passionately articulating the importance of wellness in the cancer journey and garnering widespread support for the cause. Their success in elevating awareness across the country is a testament to the power of community engagement and shared commitment to health and well-being.
