Canadian Patient Safety Week: Oct 27 thru 31st - Oct 28, 2025
Treasure Tower Rewards Canada Ltd. on 2025 Oct 25th
Canadian Patient Safety Week (CPSW) 2025 runs from October 27–31 and is organized by Healthcare Excellence Canada. This year marks the 20th anniversary of the annual campaign, with the theme "All Voices for Safer Care".
About the campaign
- Organizer: Healthcare Excellence Canada (HEC), an independent, not-for-profit charity, leads the campaign. HEC was formed in 2021 by bringing together the Canadian Patient Safety Institute and the Canadian Foundation for Healthcare Improvement.
- Goal: To bring together people—including patients, healthcare providers, and community members—to make healthcare safer for everyone.
- Activities: As part of the week, HEC hosts webinars, distributes communications toolkits, and promotes a campaign called "Safer Care in Action," which features stories of safer care from across Canada.
The 2025 theme: "All Voices for Safer Care"
The 2025 theme emphasizes the need to listen to, reflect on, and act on all voices involved in healthcare. The campaign encourages participants to:
- Listen more deeply: To the perspectives of patients, families, and all members of the healthcare team.
- Ask important questions: Involving patients, caregivers, and providers in open dialogue.
- Take meaningful action: Acting together to create a more responsive health system.
How to get involved
Individuals and organizations can participate in Canadian Patient Safety Week in several ways:
- Showcase events: Healthcare organizations can use HEC's toolkit to promote their local events.
- Share stories: Contribute to the "Safer Care in Action" campaign by sharing how you or others are making care safer.
- Attend webinars: Healthcare Excellence Canada hosts special sessions of its Spotlight Series during the week.
- Engage with resources: Take advantage of the discussion guides and activity cards to facilitate conversations about safer care.
What safer care looks like
- Understanding that patient safety is everyone’s responsibility – not just healthcare professionals.
- Supporting teams through collaboration and coaching.
- Identifying risks early.
- Ensuring all voices - especially patients and families – are heard.
